The DDDAC1543 Support Site
Trying to be of some on-line help......

Too little Bass with the DDDAC1543 ???

On some occasions the DDDAC1543 seems to lack bass reproduction. The reason is very simple...

In the starter kit I have put standard polypropylene capacitors from Wima with a value of 470nF. For most of the applications this is more then sufficient and as it is clearly a starter kit I did not feel the need to make it more expensive then directly necessary. But I also realize that occasionally this will not be the case....

The reason is actually very simple. The output capacitor creates a high pass filter with the input impedance of the following Amplifier. With 470nF you should not encounter any real problem till an input impedance of 33kOhm, which covers most of the amplifiers. How ever, some amplifiers have lower input impedance

So what to do when you lack bass response?  Increase the value of the 2 couple capacitors C5 and C6 to any value between 1 and 4.7 uF depending on your amplifier. If you have one of those amplifiers with an input impedance of 10 kOHm, then for example 4.7 uF will give a corner frequency of approximately 3 Hz.

TWEAK - TIP:  Best possible tweak for better sound ....

By the way, the best possible tweak for the DDDAC1543 in terms of transparency and stereo image clearness is to replace the output capacitor with a high end type. You can take Mundorf or Auricap or any thing from your choice.... As they are expensive, it might make sense to check your personal "bass situation" first :-)

Happy Listening and Building !!!!
